FAQs/Player Information
Got any questions? Ask your caddie!
Can children play?
Absolutely. Smallgusta is highly recommended for those who are 8+ or those who are 5+ years and have played golf and/or putted before. We do ask that parents/guardians consider whether Smallgusta is suitable for their children as it can be a challenging course and unsuitable for younger children. Please note management may request that one adult over age of 18 per group is required.
Do I need to book?
Booking a round isn’t essential unless you have a large group. If you have 12 or more players, email us at info@smallgusta.co.nz.
Our family has five people; can we play in the same group?
Unfortunately, not. The maximum for a group is four so you would have to play two back-to-back slots, i.e. two players followed by three players.
How long does a round take?
On average, a group of four should complete nine holes in approximately 45 minutes.
Is the course open when it is wet?
This really depends. Although the course can take a lot of rain, sometimes we will close the course if conditions aren’t safe or damage will be caused to the course.
Can I play 18 holes?
Yes, absolutely. This depends on availability for that day, however.
Can I play by myself?
Sure thing!
Can I bring my own equipment?
Absolutely. You’ll only need to bring your putter for Smallgusta, or you can borrow putters from us. We have all equipment required.
Is the course difficult?
Smallgusta is like real golf, so yes, it definitely can be! Keep the ball straight, study the line and judge your putts to score low. Go off course and Smallgusta shows its teeth. Taking your medicine is advised!
What footwear can be worn?
Soft-soled shoes/jandals/sandals are required on the course. Please no bare feet, work boots, hard heeled or spikes allowed.
Is the course wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately, not. We do have excellent viewing points along the course however for all spectators.
Can I book a private event at Smallgusta?
Absolutely. You can get the ball rolling by filling out the form on our Groups/Events page and we can go from there.
Can I bring a picnic?
Unfortunately, not. We have a no outside food and beverage policy onsite as we have a licensed café open from 10am.
Can we drink alcohol on the course?
No, sorry. You can relax with a drink in hand before or after your round and enjoy the views, though.
Is the course open at night?
Smallgusta is open from 10am but final rounds depend on daylight savings hours, generally 5pm in winter, 8pm in summer.
Are the hot pools still open?
Yes. You can find all up-to-date information for the hot pools here.
